LineTappy

Finding your Twilio Auth Token

To connect LineTappy, you need two things from your Twilio account: the Account SID and the Auth Token. They're side by side on the Twilio console's home page.

  1. Sign in to the Twilio console with the Twilio account that has your phone numbers.
  2. If you have more than one Twilio account (or subaccounts), check the account name at the top left is the one with your numbers.
  3. On the home page, find the Account Info box.
  4. Copy the Account SID. It starts with AC.
  5. The Auth Token is hidden underneath it. Click Show (or the eye icon), then copy it. It's 32 letters and numbers, with no prefix.
  6. Paste both into LineTappy and choose Connect.

Don't mix it up with an API key

The Auth Token is your account's own password for Twilio's API. It isn't an API key: an API key has a SID starting with SK and a secret Twilio sometimes calls the Client Secret. If you'd rather give LineTappy an API key you create yourself, choose I'd rather create an API key myself on the connect screen.

What LineTappy does with it

LineTappy uses your Auth Token once, to create an API key just for LineTappy, and then throws it away. It's never stored. You can see LineTappy's key in Twilio under Account → API keys & tokens, and switch it off there at any time.

Keep your Auth Token private, like a password. If you think someone else has seen it, create a new one in Twilio under Account → API keys & tokens → Auth tokens. LineTappy keeps working, because it uses its own key.
